Open Positions for the 2026-2027

Elementary Teacher

The Catholic School Elementary Teacher works with the administration to carry out the educational policies of the diocese and has responsibilities that are professional, instructional, managerial, and interpersonal. At Saint Gregory the Great School, our mission calls us to educate the whole childโ€”mind, body, and spiritโ€”while nurturing a community rooted in faith, service, and academic excellence. Teachers are expected to facilitate the learning of each student, comply with school rules and policies, and provide for the safety of students. The teacher is hired and appraised by the Principal and is expected to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Diocese of Richmond, particularly the Office of Catholic Schools.


Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Observe all school and diocesan directives, adhering to guidelines regarding curriculum
  • Obtain, read, and be familiar with the Staff/Faculty Handbook
  • Collaborate with colleagues on instructional decisions and school procedures/events
  • Prepare lesson plans that reflect clear objectives, effective procedures, and a range of activities to respond to individual differences
  • Create a positive classroom environment to support the whole child- academically and spiritually
  • Differentiate instruction and integrate technology to meet the needs of all students
  • Evaluate the performance of students in a variety of ways to measure comprehension and growth
  • Plan and supervise field trips as appropriate to emphasize lessons or further the education of students, following all school and diocesan guidelines
  • Fulfill record-keeping requirements such as attendance, report cards, and progress reports
  • Support and maintain positive partnerships with parents and community
  • Help maintain a safe environment and follow the approved procedures regarding the health and safety of the students
  • Maintain high professional and ethical standards in all school-related activities
  • Participate in diocesan and school-sponsored in-service programs and attend staff development opportunities to ensure continued professional growth
  • Foster Christian values and behavior among students while promoting the Catholic identity of the school through knowledge and respect for Catholic Tradition

Requirements

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree
  • Must be licensed and/or certified to teach your area of responsibility by the state of Virginia
  • Each teacher is responsible for maintaining and updating his/her own certification

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time, 10 month position. Travel time is sometimes required for diocesan meetings, field trips, and other assigned responsibilities. A classroom, necessary books, and supplies are provided by the school.

Physical Demands/Environment:

The teacher is expected to supervise students and the safe environment of the school, and may involve work in classrooms, the computer lab, the library, and other parts of our campus.

Junior Kindergarten Teacher

The Catholic School Junior Kindergarten Teacher works with the administration to carry out the educational policies of the diocese and has responsibilities that are professional, instructional, managerial, and interpersonal. GATE Program Teacher

The Catholic School Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Teacher works with the administration to carry out the educational policies of the diocese and has responsibilities that are professional, instructional, managerial, and interpersonal. At Saint Gregory the Great School, our mission calls us to educate the whole childโ€”mind, body, and spiritโ€”while nurturing a community rooted in faith, service, and academic excellence. Teachers are expected to facilitate the learning of each student, comply with school rules and policies, and provide for the safety of students. The teacher is hired and appraised by the Principal and is expected to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Diocese of Richmond, particularly the Office of Catholic Schools.

  • Implement the GATE Program for students in grades 2-5
  • Collect and analyze data to determine eligible students for the GATE Program
  • Prepare lesson plans that reflect clear objectives, effective procedures, and a range of activities to respond to individual needs of high achievers and gifted students
  • Design and implement differentiated instruction that supports high achieving and gifted students in the areas of academic acceleration, depth of knowledge, enrichment, and fostering creativity
  • Collaborate with colleagues on instructional decisions to support high achievers and gifted students in their classrooms
  • Create a positive classroom environment to support the whole child- academically and spiritually
  • Evaluate the performance of students in a variety of ways to measure comprehension and growth
  • Fulfill record-keeping requirements such as monitoring student progress and analyzing test data
  • Support and maintain positive partnerships with parents and community
  • Help maintain a safe environment and follow the approved procedures regarding the health and safety of the students
  • Maintain high professional and ethical standards in all school-related activities
  • Participate in diocesan and school-sponsored in-service programs and attend staff development opportunities to ensure continued professional growth
