Description

Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to join our growing Exceptional Saints Program for the 2026โ€“2027 school year. Rooted in our Catholic faith, Saint Gregory the Great is committed to forming disciples of Christ through academic excellence, spiritual growth, and a learning environment where every child is recognized as a unique gift from God.


The Exceptional Saints Program is designed to provide individualized support that empowers students with diverse learning needs to flourish within our inclusive Catholic school community. The Special Education Teacher will play a vital role in partnering with classroom teachers, families, administrators, and student support personnel to ensure each student receives the accommodations, interventions, and encouragement needed to achieve academic success while growing in confidence, independence, and faith.
The ideal candidate is passionate about inclusive education and believes that every student is capable of growth. This individual is collaborative, creative, and skilled at building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. The teacher will provide specialized instruction, and accommodation strategies, monitor student development and implement progress, coach classroom teachers on instructional supports, and collaborate in creating learning environments where all students are welcomed, challenged, and celebrated.


Responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct academic intervention and specialized instruction for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers to implement accommodations, modifications, and differentiated instructional strategies.
  • Developing, monitoring, and revising individualized learning and student support plans.
  • Utilizing data to monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
  • Supporting the development of executive functioning, organizational, social, and self-advocacy skills.
  • Partnering with families through consistent communication and collaborative goal setting.
  • Working closely with school leadership, counselors, and outside specialists to support the whole child.
  • Promoting an inclusive school culture that reflects the dignity of every student as a beloved child of God.

Physical Demands/Environment:
The teacher is expected to supervise students and the safe environment of the school, and may involve work in classrooms, the computer lab, the library, and other parts of our campus.

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time, 10 month position. Travel time is sometimes required for diocesan meetings, field trips, and other assigned responsibilities. A classroom, necessary books, and supplies are provided by the school.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree
  • Must be licensed and/or certified to teach your area of responsibility by the state of Virginia
  • Each teacher is responsible for maintaining and updating his/her own certification

Substitute Teacher

Description

Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is seeking Substitute Teachers for 2026 -2027 school year.

The ideal substitute teacher is flexible, organized, compassionate, and able to confidently manage a classroom while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education. Substitute teachers are expected to follow lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher, foster respectful student behavior, and ensure the well-being of every student throughout the school day. The substitute teacher is hired and appraised by the Principal and is expected to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Diocese of Richmond, particularly the Office of Catholic Schools.


Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities prepared by the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including lunch, recess, and transitions as assigned.
  • Encourage students’ academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
  • Communicate effectively with school administration and staff regarding the day’s activities.
  • Uphold the policies, procedures, and Catholic mission of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School.
  • Help maintain a safe environment and follow the approved procedures regarding the health and safety of the students
  • ย Maintain high professional and ethical standards in all school-related activities
  • Foster Christian values and behavior among students while promoting the Catholic identity of the school through knowledge and respect for Catholic Tradition

Beyond the Bell Staff | After School Care

Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is seeking caring, energetic, and dependable individuals to join our Beyond the Bell After School Care Program for the 2026โ€“2027 school year. Beyond the Bell is more than an after-school programโ€”it is an extension of our Catholic school community where students continue to grow in faith, friendships, creativity, and character after the final bell rings. We are looking for team members who enjoy working with children and are committed to providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where every student feels welcomed and valued.


The ideal candidate is patient, responsible, enthusiastic, and enjoys building positive relationships with children. Staff members work collaboratively to supervise students, facilitate activities, assist with homework, and create meaningful experiences that reflect the mission and values of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Supervise students in Junior Kindergarten through 8th grade during after-school care.
  • Foster a safe, welcoming, and faith-filled environment where students feel known and cared for.
  • Lead and participate in recreational activities, games, crafts, outdoor play, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Provide homework support and encourage positive study habits.
  • Monitor student behavior using positive guidance and effective classroom management techniques.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure the safe dismissal of students to authorized adults.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, school staff, and program leadership.
  • Follow all Diocese of Richmond and Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School policies and safety procedures.

Physical Demands/Environment:
The staff member is expected to supervise students and the safe environment of the school, and may involve work in classrooms, on the playground, and other parts of our campus.

Working Conditions:
This is a part-time position.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications:

  • ย Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, or recreation setting is preferred.
